Twitterature: July Edition

by Stacey

twitterature-graphic-300x136Anne, at Modern Mrs. Darcy, hosts a wonderful monthly reading round up called Twitterature. In this link up, writers are asked to create short, Twitter-style reviews of their recent reads. What a fun and easy way to learn what people are loving and in some cases, leaving.

And on a related note, I am finally beginning to really use Goodreads and would love to find more friends to follow. If you use Goodreads, please leave me a comment so I can read some of what you are loving.

Here are a few of my most recent reads, Twitter style…

13536315

The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes: A man looking back on a teen age relationship finds it was even more confusing than he first thought.

15780279

A Tangle of Knots by Lisa Graff: A newly released middle grade novel about magic and special talents that I really wanted to like but didn’t.

15771862

Wave by Sonali Deranivagala: If you can get through the first few chapters, this memoir of unbelievable tragedy is more than worth the initial pain of reading it.

The Sense of an Ending sounds interesting!

I love GoodReads! Sometimes I trust the reviews there more than on Amazon, etc. It’s also how I keep up with all my reading 🙂

  2. I’m really curious about The Sense of an Ending. Did you love it? Hate it? Feel as confused as the author?

    • Stacey says:

I loved and hated Sense of an Ending in equal measure. I read it for a new book club that I joined that is sponsored by our library. All the members loved it but the librarian didn’t. I will say, if I didn’t have the chance to discuss if with a group, I think I would finished it feeling frustrated and confused. Have you read it? Thoughts?

I love this idea! How marvelous. I haven’t read The Sense of an Ending and think I must … xox

You should read Sense of an Ending! Because I think you would enjoy it but also because I would love to hear your thoughts about it!

My book club was supposed to do The Sense of an Ending a couple of months ago but the leader had to back out, so I haven’t ended up reading it yet — but now I want to even more.
I saw Wave in the bookstore and I almost stood there reading the whole thing — it was so riveting. Will have to get it. Enjoyed your recommendations!

Welcome to Twitterature, Stacey!  The Sense of an Ending is one of the most quotable books I’ve read in a LONG time.  Anne, it’s a very quick read, so I’d say go for it.  One of those books that I wasn’t sure how I felt about the story, exactly, in the end.  But the resonance I felt with so many of the statements about life Barnes made throughout the story was well worth the time invested in reading this one!
