You

I’m taking a fun class through Big Picture Classes right now led by the amazing Ali Edwards. It is called 31 Things and each day Ali shares a writing and photo prompt. A few days ago the prompt was titled “You”. I thought it was a fun one to turn in to a blog post…

Age: 40 (for two more months!)

Favorite part of my day: I love when everyone is home from school and all their various activities. Dinner, homework and showers are done and we all snuggle in Katherine’s bed to read. If the girls still need to finish their reading for school, Katherine is currently reading her way through the Heidi Hecklebeck series and Caroline is reading anything by Sharon Creech that she can get her hands on and I am having a love-hate relationship with The Goldfinch. If all the school reading is done, we are reading the Lauren Child version of Pippi Longstocking. If you haven’t seen this book, make sure to check it out. The illustrations are so great.

Loving: A new cookbook, Keepers. I have made a bunch of the recipes and so far, they really are ‘keepers’.

Longing for: Spring!! Fine. The snow on the trees right now looks gorgeous but enough already. We are forecasted to have 6 to 10 more inches tomorrow followed by a coat of ice and then a storm on Sunday into Monday that may be measured in feet, not inches. Enough.

Dreaming of: Warmth. I really can not get warm in this crazy weather. I am wearing fleece lined leggings and wool socks and I just can’t shake it.

Needing: To get caught up with Scandal. As many of my readers know, I am obsessed. I really need to get caught up so I can return to my regularly scheduled life.

Navigating: My relationship with social media. I am dabbling in so many different places right now and there are things I love about each site. Trying to figure out where to really put my time.

Knowing: That daily writing is really important for my mental health.

I’m eager to read Pippi Longstocking to my daughter (I don’t recall reading it myself as a child) and that one looks like a good one to read. And I so agree with that last line about writing to preserve mental health–yes, yes, yes. I always like these kinds of posts when yo do them, thank you.

Thank you so much Kristen for your kind words! And yes- it is a really good version of Pippi Longstocking. The illustrations are so much fun!

  2. It’s amazing how much good for my sanity a few paragraphs on a screen can do! I hope the storms aren’t as bad as they forecast! Everytime I think we get slammed I see my friends back home and realize how easy we’ve had it this winter! Stay warm!

I want to start Scandal! What fun it would be to watch from the beginning and finally catch up.
I just got my first pair of fleece-lined leggings and I adore them.
We’re supposed to get up to a foot of snow tomorrow! Yikes! Send me back to Florida!

    • Stacey says:

Oh my goodness! I just got caught up on Scandal and I feel so relieved. I have been all consumed- it is so good!!!

  4. Patty says:

Stacey-too funny, I am also “working” my way through Goldfinch and Keepers is my go-to cookbook these days!!

    • Stacey says:

Patty- that is too funny! Each time I want to stop reading The Goldfinch I decide I like it and I keep going. It is just so darn long!!! And yes- we just had another Keepers meal and it was delicious. Tacos tonight. Last night was drumsticks, breaded green beans and orzo risotto. All have been super yummy!

We just watched S2E2 of Scandal tonight.  Still so, so good.  I love the cover of that Pippi Longstocking book!  You know, one of my best friends loved The Goldfinch.  She said it was her fave of 2013.  But her husband struggled with it and it took him forever.  I think she read 19 books while he made his way through The Goldfinch, in fact.  Tartt rambled way too much and was too wordy for him.  Is that the issue you’re having?

  6. What are your favorite recipes from Keepers?  I made the asian pork sliders a few weeks ago and found them way too fussy… plus then I got a stomach bug and puked them up, so I don’t think I’ll be making them again.

    • Stacey says:

Oh bummer! I’ve made the maple drum sticks, the breaded green beans, the orzo risotto, the tacos and so far they’ve all been good. I did also try the crustless quiche and that was not good. I guess quiche really needs a crust 🙂

  7. Allie says:

I love this! Would you mind if I borrowed your idea? I feel you with the weather – and I am only in Georgia. But I am so, so cold!

  8. Nina says:

Totally agree about writing. Even if it’s just garble or a quick journal entry, I need it to process my day. So nice to read all these tidbits about you 🙂
