Twitterature: January 2014 Edition

by Stacey

I love Twitterature days. Once a month, Anne at Modern Mrs. Darcy hosts a link up of short, Twitter style book reviews. Below are my books for the month.

This is the Story of a Happy Marriage by Ann Patchett

I thought I was going to hate this book and I ended up loving it. To read my full review, please click through to Great New Books where you can read my thoughts.

Dust by Patricia Cornwell

Patricia Cornwell is comfort food reading for me. Weird given the topics of her books but true. I read this one over the holidays when I wanted a bit of a ‘vacation read.’

The Lake of Dead Languages by Carol Goodman

We read The Lake of Dead Languages for my library book club and we were lucky enough to have the author attend our meeting. Hearing about her process and where her career has taken her since writing this book fifteen years ago was fascinating.

Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt

While Caroline was reading Tuck Everlasting, she had so many questions that I decided that I should read too. I haven’t read Tuck since my fifth grade teacher read it aloud. It was even better this time around.

  1. Tuck Everlasting was a favorite of mine growing up but I haven’t read it in years. One more to tuck away on my read-aloud list! Thanks for the reminder!

  2. Tamara says:

Tuck Everlasting was so haunting when I read it as a kid! Did you ever see the movie? I know it came out considerably later.

  3. I really  enjoyed the Ann Patchett book. I haven’t read Tuck Everlasting since 5th grade, but I need to! I have read and loved The Search for Delicious several times as an adult, which tells me Natalie Babbitt is still worth my while. 🙂

  4. I love seeing what others are reading! I don’t remember reading Tuck Everlasting but now I can’t wait to read it with my kids. Thanks for sharing!

  5. Oh my goodness… I don’t remember much about it, but just hearing the title Tuck Everlasting provoked such strong feelings for me – I remember loving that book!  I loved hearing more about Patchett’s life and her path to becoming a writer in Happy Marriage.

  6. Shana Norris says:

I’ve never read Patricia Cornwall but I see how it could be like comfort food.  I feel that way about Lisa Gardner, PD James, and Henning Mankell.  Even though they’re suspense-y crime fiction-y.
The Lake of Dead Languages – I think I’d read that one just because of the title.  So compelling.

  7. How neat that you got to meet the author! I love that. Tuck Everlasting must have been on everyone’s 5th grade reading list, along with Bridge to Terabithia 😉

  8. Nina says:

heading over to GNB now to read the view of Patchett’s newest!
