One Little Word January: Shine

Last week I wrote briefly about choosing my ‘one little word’ for 2014. Shine. I wrote that I wasn’t sure where the word would take me. I signed up for Ali Edwards on-line class to give me a bit of motivation. I’ve enjoyed the beginning of the class but as is often the case with me, it took a ‘real life’ friend to really get me going.

I have been having monthly lunch dates with my friend Donna for years now. Sometimes we have set goals for our get togethers or read books together or just talked. This year we decided that we would do something creative each time we met. Today, Donna came prepared to lead us through creating not a vision board, but a vision card. Something to motivate but something small enough to display and carry and move.

I have been wanting to do this my word but it definitely took Donna to get me going. As we talked and worked, I realized that there are, as I suspected, many layers to my word. I found that Shine means giving myself the chance to shine and in order to do that I want to set goals and actually ‘make it happen.’ The thought of setting public goals gives me a bit of a tummy ache but it seems that maybe this is the year to do that. We’ll have to see…

Donna’s word for the year is Move and she found all sort of amazing things today too.

Below are a few pictures of our process.

Thank you Donna for the motivation and inspiration. I can’t wait to see where the year takes us.

Thank you, Stacey, for your willingness to keep our journey moving forward and to dive in to each adventure with openness and enthusiasm. Can’t wait ’til next month!

This looks like such fun!  And the idea of a card versus a huge board is perfect because like you said, it’s portable and you can easily take it anywhere.

What do you think about the OLW class so far?  I need to get some card stock so I can print the journaling prompts.  I did the free writing she recommended – the writing that WON’T go into my OLW book – but now it’s time to move on to the more presentable pages!

  3. I love this idea! I often think of doing an inspiration board of sorts, but I have no idea where I could put it in our house where I’d see it regularly. The card is the perfect solution!

thank you for being willing to flower and grow, inspiring me to do the same!

Best of luck with your goals! I’d love to hear your progress throughout the year.

Good luck with your goals – you will both move and make it happen! The thought of public goals gives me a tummy ache too, and yet I did it. Gulp.

Great idea! I drew a picture of my word yesterday, but I might take some time to do a little vision card too. Thanks for the inspiration.

I love this – both your word and your vision card idea! And your monthly lunch dates. How fun!

  9. That’s awesome!  How great you have a Donna in your life.  Your word is wonderful — “Get Out of Your Own Way” may be my favorite thing on your vision card!

I really like the idea of a vision card, rather than board. I think I need to make one for myself, specifically for my gardening goals this year. I think it would really help to have a vision that I commit to rather than just picking everything I like in the gardening catalogs and hoping it all turns out OK. I think my lack of thought/inspiration leads to the weedy mess that ensues around mid-August. Shine on, Stacey!!
