What I’m Watching

by Stacey

Over the summer, during a conversation with a fellow book lover who is also a movie/television lover, I made a big realization. I was missing out on a whole lot of great storytelling. Before this summer, we watched Modern Family, the news and the Daily Show. After this conversation, I decided that some things had to change.

Now mind you, we have certainly not turned in to T.V. junkies and if truth be told, I am watching most of my T.V. while sweating on the stair mill or cooking dinner (thank goodness for Netflix and Showtime Anytime), but we have added to our repertoire for sure. And my friend was right. There is some really good stuff out there.

Here are some of my recent favorites and please do share yours…

I just finished Season 3 of Homeland. All I can say is when will Season 4 be here? And am I the only one who has a hard time keeping track of this show and reality? Just the other day, there was news of a disturbance in Iran and I really thought I know exactly what the solution could be…

When I finished Homeland, I was in serious withdrawal. A lot of people had suggested Breaking Bad but I watched the first episode about a year ago and I just couldn’t go any further. It was just too dark and depressing for me. If you are a fan, feel free to try and convince me though. I keep hearing that Breaking Bad is the best out there.

In the meantime though, I have begun Scandal. I am only about halfway through the first season so no comments with spoilers please. I am just loving it. It’s like The West Wing meets Law and Order. What could be better than that?

And for laughs, we are watching Arrested Development and I don’t mean the new ones that showed up on Netflix this year. I mean the original ones. Please don’t laugh. We know how woefully behind we are but we are having fun catching up.

UnknownSo, any other suggestions? And as you can tell, no suggestion is too obvious. Clearly…

  1. I have never watched Homeland but it sounds like I need to!  Scandal… so good, so bad.  You’d think I would learn, but every time I watch that show I think, “no, they wouldn’t do THAT” then they DO.  It’s crazy.  And I looooove some original AD.  The newer ones just aren’t as good.  Have you ever watched Parks & Rec?  That’s one of my favorites.  Also, the earlier seasons of 30 Rock are pretty hilarious.

You definitely need to watch Homeland! Although it honestly might be hard with a baby in the house. I really did leave my children to their own devices much more than I usually do as I worked my way through it! We have not seen Parks and Rec or 30 Rock so those are great ones to add to the list!

We’ve watched the first three episodes of Scandal and are so hooked.  If we had the time, we’d so binge-watch Season One.

Are you watching the original AD on Netflix, or is it just the new version that’s available on there?

I agree with Sarah:  sounds like I need to give Homeland a try.

Isn’t Scandal soooo good!? And the only way I have time is because my husband is really not a tv watcher at all. I have been watching mostly on my iPad at the gym or as I cook. I finally decided that if I was going to watch anything, I was going to have to move forward without him! And we are watching the original AD on Netflix.

I LOVE Arrested Development. And I’m about to start Scandal from the beginning. We watch New Girl and Modern Family. I watch Once Upon a Time and the Wonderland version on my own. As well as Revenge. I don’t even know that those shows are great, but they’re my entertainment.

Let me know what you think of Scandal. I have just started the second season and I am finding it hard to do anything else! We love Modern Family but haven’t seen any other of your suggestions… will have to add them to my list!

Oh this is so funny – I never watch TV, literally haven’t for years, but in the last year have watched two series on my computer (somehow that doesn’t feel like TV to me – I watch on airplanes or other in-between times) .. Homeland and Scandal! Have heard great things about House of Cards and part of what I loved about Homeland was that my husband and I watched together. House of Cards may be something that fits that mold. xoxo

    • Stacey says:

Lindsey- that is too funny! I haven’t watched anything in years either! I too am watching on the iPad and I can’t rope Rob in with me so I have been watching solo at the gym, while cooking etc. Not as fun so I may try to convince him to watch House of Cards- good idea!

You know I love Scandal! I’m sure I would love Homeland too as all the same peeps seem to like both. I’m scared to start anything new though. I have ten episodes of Nashville sitting on my TiVo and I never feel like watching them. I guess that should tell me something!
