Christmas 2013: Photo Style

by Stacey

The lead up to Christmas felt super rushed this year and frankly, I can’t believe that the holiday has already passed. Good thing I have photographic evidence that it all happened!

The season began with our annual cookie baking day at Rob’s parents.

And then on Christmas Eve, we took my mom, as part of her Christmas present, to the totally amazing New York Botanical Gardens Train Show. This visit deserves a post of it’s own. The exhibit was incredible with hundreds of New York City buildings built entirely out of plant parts. Unfortunately, the grown ups enjoyed it more than the girls but they did light up when they saw their beloved Yankee Stadium.

IMG_4178After the train show, we ventured into Manhattan to see the Christmas tree. After a simple trip on Christmas Eve last year, we were a bit surprised by a much more crowded city this time around but we still managed to soak in the magic.

IMG_4193After returning home and before heading to Rob’s parents for the traditional seven fishes Christmas Eve dinner, we actually got Daisy to sit still for a picture. A Christmas miracle perhaps?

DSCN0187We ended the night with our reading of the Night Before Christmas. I love doing this as we read from the same exact book that I grew up reading.

DSCN0215This year also marked the first time that there were a few breaks in between the tearing of paper to enjoy the moment.

Looks like a wonderful holiday! Have a great week and Happy New Year!

I spy an American Girl doll!
I feel very grateful for photographic proof that we DID stuff. We had stuff. It happened. I also feel that Christmas snuck up on me and then vanished. And I keep hearing that from more and more people. I wonder why?

I think my favorite thing about this is the photo of the tattered book from your childhood. How wonderful that you still have that to share!

  4. Mmm… those cookies look really good!  And of course I love your hand-knitted stockings.  (Oh shoot… I just realized I packed ours away without getting a “finished” photo of the new one for baby Sam!  Hmm… I might have to venture into the attic and open that box up again.)

I know what you mean about the holiday flying by — something about that late Thanksgiving just made everything feel a little more compressed.  Plus, with it falling on a Wednesday this year, we did all our Christmases (4 in total) in a week’s time, which is practically unheard of.  Well, it was still a great Christmas at my house, and now we’re on to New Year’s!

Christmas flew by for me too, Stacey.  Like you, I’m glad I’ve got photographs.  Unlike you, however, I haven’t done any sorting, editing, organizing, backing up, etc.  That’s a big job I’m saving for next weekend.

It looks like you had a wonderful holiday.  I always say it, but I’m so envious of your proximity to the city.

PS: I absolutely love how you sat the AG doll right by the fireplace.  So creative, and much better than wrapping her in a box!!

For some reason, Santa tends to leave the ‘big’ gift unwrapped by the fire place. He did that in my childhood home too 🙂
