Selfie

Wow. The concept of the “selfie” was totally not created by a 40 year old woman. At least not one that still doesn’t recognize the wrinkles and the sun spots as her own.

Maybe next time I will brave and show more than my feet but for today… here goes.

Skyline

by Stacey

IMG_2708

When I read the prompt ‘skyline’, I was a bit stumped. And then I remembered that you can actually see the NYC skyline from a neighborhood in our town. The view is not in an area that I go to very often. In fact, I am quite sure I haven’t driven down this particular street since shortly after we moved here six years ago. When I drove up the hill I couldn’t help but wonder why I had let such a long time pass. Even on this hazy day, it was pretty great to see the city from this way…

Diagonal

Last weekend, we went to my in-laws pool and the girls had a blast jumping and diving off the diving board. Caroline has been trying to perfect her dive for years but on this trip, she took a much needed break from all the practice.

Looks like she may have enjoyed her break…

Yellow

by Stacey

IMG_2683August Break oops! Yesterday’s prompt was ‘yellow’ while today’s is love.

Turns out it worked out well for me.

The girls beg me regularly for pedicures and I almost always say no. For some reason, today I caved and without any direction from me, Katherine chose to get yellow toe nails. How perfect…

First Week of August

by Stacey

IMG_2587

“The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning. The weeks that come before are only a climb from balmy spring, and those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn, but the first week of August is motionless, and hot. It is curiously silent, too, with blank white dawns and glaring noons, and sunsets smeared with too much color.”

Breakfast Bowls

by Stacey

IMG_2674Today marks the first day of the blogging community’s August Break. I have never played along before but I’m going to give it a try this year.

During the August Break, anything goes. Regular old blog posts, pictures, words. Anything. You chose to follow prompts or not. I suspect I will do a little bit of everything but for the first day, I’m going with the prompt.

Breakfast…

I have always made fun of Rob for eating the same breakfast every day. Cereal, a banana, orange juice, water and coffee. If any one of the pieces is missing, my really happy husband can get a bit grumpy. While I have always felt high and mighty and super flexible when it comes to breakfast, this post made me realize something. I can’t quite remember when I ever had anything other that oatmeal with blueberries and walnuts for my breakfast. Seems like maybe I shouldn’t have made fun for all those years….

I guess I will at least take comfort in the fact that my bowls match my living room!

Yesterday I Saw…

by Stacey

IMG_2583

Yesterday I saw…

Our dog struggling to understand her invisible fence. She thinks it’s inside too.

Two Hertz Rent-a-Car locations as I picked up a car to use while our mini van is being repaired.

The pages of Life After Life. I keep hearing that it is wonderful so I keep trying but I must admit that I am confused.

Eighty degrees as the high temperature. What a treat for July.

Magazines that are still being forwarded from our old address. Try as I might, I can’t get a handle on our address changes.

Local peaches from our farmer’s market. This is my favorite time of year of for fruit.

The camp bus coming too early. Katherine was left tying her shoes on the way out the door.

Our wonderful carpenter turning an empty space in to a mud room.

My usual walking route seeming even more lovely on a beautiful day.

Butter

by Stacey

IMG_2654

It took me a minute to realize what she had done but when I did, I also realized it was brilliant.

Last week, Caroline was at a sleepover so Rob and I let Katherine choose where we would go for dinner. She always chooses a place where pancakes are an option, so a diner it was. We were sitting outside at a local place that has only recently added outdoor seating. Local Ridgewood people should note that The Daily Treat has outdoor seating now and it really does make the Greek salad taste even better.

So I looked over and saw Katherine enjoying a piece of bread with butter- her most favorite food after pancakes. And she had put butter on both sides of the bread. When I asked her about it, she said, “I always do. More butter.”

Really, when she said it, I felt quite silly. Why hadn’t I thought of it years before? In fact, I think it should become a way of life. Metaphorically of course but still…

Butter on both sides of the bread and more of the good stuff- just cause.
