All year long I read excellent reviews of Chris Raschka’s Ball for Daisy. And then, for some unexplained reason, I didn’t read it.
And then all my favorite bloggers wrote over and over again about how much they loved Jack Gantos’ Dead End in Norvelt. And I didn’t read it.
Well, A Ball for Daisy won the Caldecott Medal and Dead End in Norvelt won the Newbery.
To the bookstore to catch up with the rest of the world…
Haven’t heard of either of these – time to put in some library requests!
I was kicking myself over A Ball for Daisy because I just read about it in Horn Book Magazine, and thought “I should really get that one”. But I didn’t. Dead End in Norvelt I’ve had on my shelf (in final and ARC formats) for months. But I can’t say that the idea of it is grabbing me… I usually like the Honor books better anyway, for the Newbery at least.
